I can't think of much else that make me think of childhood the way spider cookies do (also known as no bake cookies by many). My mom would make these, and my brother and I would stand over them and wait for them to dry, occasionally stealing bits and pieces when mom was not looking.
I don't make these cookies very often, not because they are hard to make or because we don't like them, but in fact because of the opposite. I love these cookies so much I will eat them until I make myself sick.
So why did I make these cookies....for fathers day I gave my dad a couple of coupons for some baked good. These cookies happen to be one of his favorite as well! Yum! I actually made two batches of these cookies. The first on I messed up on, because I used regular oats and not quick cook oats. I knew if I gave my dad subpar cookies he would give me a bunch of crap!
Even though no bake cookies are not an uncommon cookie, this recipe is one that has been passed around my family for years. My mom got it from Gram, my Uncle Mike's mom. I found it very hard to not think about Gram and Uncle Mike both while making this batch of cookies.
Like many of my family recipes, this one is mostly just a list of ingredients with little to no instructions. This type of recipe usually taste better than anything else I know how to make, but takes a few tries to figure out how to cook them just right.
