Monsoon season officially starts around the last week or two of June, but before we moved out here we were told that the unofficial start of Monsoon season is July 4. We have now entered out third monsoon season, and this is proving to be true. The 4th of July around here is usually a very humid affair, with a thunderstorm or two. The amazing thing about these storms is that they do not seem to ruin anyone's day and people just seem to go about their cookouts and fireworks like normal. Another difference between the 4th of July's in the southwest and the ones from my childhood in Tennessee are the attitudes towards the rain. Everyone is just so excited about the rain, and would rather see that then fireworks anyways.
It is absolutely amazing how an act of nature can become such a wonderful and joyful thing! I myself am loving the rain that has been falling on a daily basis for the last week. My curly hair is now super crazy and uncontrollable, and it made me super happy to hear my mom (who is on her first summer here) tell me that the weather and humidity feels just like it does this time of year in Tennessee.
However, the rain is not all fun and games. Miss O is terrified of thunder! Now so far the rain has been pretty steady, but she is already preparing herself for the loud thunder claps to come. I have a feeling we have some sleepless nights in our near future!
Oh Monsoon season, it feels so good for you to finally be here!
