The Cookie Bag

There is a super nice couple at church named Tom and Diana, and I look foward to seeing them every week. Tom always brings cookies for the kiddos who are at the Wednesday night service.
Well, on the first Saturday we were at the farmer's market, Diana showed up and requested that I make a bag for Tom to carry his cookies in. This is what I came up with...
So cute, right? When I was finished all I could do was smile!

Then almost immediately I started working on another!

Then before you know it, I had made all of these!
They are just too much fun to make. I love to pick out the contrasting fabrics. I will sit on the floor in front of my fabric cabinet and pull everything out while  trying to find fabrics that look great together.
Many of my supplies are thrifted, which has given me the ability to create a large craft stash, but when working on the embellishments for these bags I realized what I was short on; cute buttons. Now don't get me wrong, I have jars of buttons, but they were all pretty boring. So, lucky for me Joann's was having a 40% off sale on buttons and I stocked up! There is no shortage on embellishments in this house now!
I have fabric picked out for a few more, so be prepared, this is not the last time you will be seeing the cookie bag!

This Week In My Garden June 25

Last time in my garden, June 11

Last night in my garden

This garden of mine is starting to take off. Things are finally starting to fruit. We will soon be enjoying eggplant, okra, squash, and tomatoes! We have also been eating green beans by the basket full. Yum Yum! My mint has taken off this year. I always worry about it due to neglect, but man it is a hearty plant. All of the zinnias grew back from last year, which was a surprise.
We have been spending lots of time in our garden. DJ has really gotten into it this year, and he is excited about finding ways to expand it in the coming years. In the evenings, we all go outside and pull weeds and check out the progress of the plants.
I can't wait till I can be enjoying delicious homegrown veggies! Soon, so soon.

What A Good Dad!!

After a full day of request, DJ finally gave in and let Miss O paint his toe nails. She took her time, and tried her best to make sure all the polish stayed on the nail. My favorite part of this experience is that she got bored and stopped after toe number 8.
She then needed her daddy to paint her finger nails so they could match!
I think pink sparkles looks good on them both!

My First Day As A Farmer's Market Vendor

Well, I finally did it! After talking about selling my crafts at the farmer's market for the last two years, my friends Holly, Lissa, and I  finally got the courage to do it.
Saturday was the day. We showed up at 9:00 AM for set up.  It was already super hot outside. My Mom stopped by to bring the kiddos some snacks, and ended up taking Short Round with her (he is a little chubby boy who does not handle the heat very well.)
I have to say I am pleased with the way everything turned out. My banner showed up Friday afternoon and it looked great! I brought my table clothes from home, and they looked great as well!
In these parts, May and June are the hottest months of the year, so it was a slow day at the farmer's market. However, we were reassured by the other vendors that it will pick up next month! The other vendors were so nice, and the day turned out to be a lot of fun; full of hanging out with my friends and meeting new people.
It feels good to have the first week under our belt. We all learned a lot, and have new ideas for what to make, and how to set up.

Also, I am considering selling some of my items on-line. I'll be sure to leave you a link as soon as the online store is ready!

This Week In My Garden: June 11

Last time in my garden May 28
This morning in my garden June 11

squash blossoms

okra (yum! I can't wait)
Eggplant

tomatoes

even more tomatoes

hydrangeas

The temperature has warmed up a bit in my neck of the woods, however it is still below average for this area. The cooler weather is something you will not hear me complain about at all. It has been so nice, that the majority of our time is spent outside these days.
Because DJ is back this summer, the garden is getting lots of extra attention. We are now just waiting for everything to take off. Even though growth is slow this year, things are still happening in this garden of mine. We are still enjoying more kale and swiss chard than we know what to do with, and the green beans are also finding their way onto our table. Hopefully in the next two weeks we will be enjoying squash and okra, which both have blooms and small fruit on them already.
Some other stuff that is showing up is tomatoes. We have a few small green ones, which makes me super happy. I am also happy about all the volunteer tomato plants that have shown up throughout the garden. About a month ago, we dug up 7 small plants and gave them away. I would say that there is about that many or more that have popped up in other places in the garden. This means extra tomatoes!!!
My basil is taking its time this year. I am ready to start eating fresh basil on everything, but my plants are still pretty small. Speaking of which, I better get out there and waters those cute delicious little herbs.

If you have a garden and would like to share photos, stories, or if you have any advice, I would love to hear from you. Please leave a link in the comment section!! Happy Gardening !

A Box Full of Awesomeness

A couple of weeks ago when DJ's grandparents came to town, I was given an amazing gift! GiGi (as Miss O calls her) came in with this box in her hands. (awesome box right?!?!) She had a skeptical look on her face, and she said something along the lines of "I don't know if you can use these or not, but they were my mothers, and I found them in the attic." It was still kinda early in the morning, and I did not really know what to expect, so I opened the box.........

It took my breath away to see such a sigh! If you can't tell, it is full of vintage sewing patterns! Now GiGi is a reader of this here blog, (hi!) and knew I had just bought a bunch of patterns on sale at Joann's not too long ago. I was very quick to reassure that really, you can never have too many patterns! Right?

I feel like I hit the sewing jackpot!! Not only was the contents of the box a great surprise, but it is cool that these patterns were DJ's great grandmothers, and they were used to make some of his aunts clothing. What a special thing to be given.
Here are some examples of the cuteness found inside.

Getting Ready For The Farmers Market

WOW!! Sorry to scare you with such a sight! No, my fabric cabnit did not explode spewing out fabric all over my crafting area, I pulled it all out ( with the help of Miss O of course.)

My craft space has been a busy place lately. My friend Lissa and I are finally doing something we have been talking about for 2 years now......we are going to have a farmers market table! We start on June 13. We are going to start out sharing a table for the first week or two, in order to get a feel of it before we branch out on our own. Because that deadline is close, Lissa and I have been getting together a couple of times a week to craft. This is nothing new, the two of us get together a couple of times a week, but we usually just sit around and talk while the kiddos play. It is nice that all our kiddos play so well together, giving us that time to craft. We are so full of ideas!
I can't wait, I already have my shade tent, a new camp chair, I ordered a banner with the Silly Pants and Sweet Peas name on it, and my square credit card thing is on the way. There is still a lot of work to do, but I think we are going to be able to pull it  off.
I have finished a lot of my items above since I took these pictures, so I will post an update to let you guys know how it is going later in the week!
Wish us luck!
