New Pants For My Little Man

My poor little fella is having some problems with his pants. He is only 6 months old, but he is already wearing 12 month clothes, and those pants are still tight around his cute little tummy. It is the time of year here in the desert where I don't really want to invest in any more pants or winter clothes for the kids, because they will not really get a lot of use before it warms up for good. SOOOOO, I decided to make Short Round some pants. This is the first pair of 4 that is finished. (Hopefully I will get the others finished this week)
Now, the funny thing about these pants is that I made this exact pattern for Miss O, the same size and everything. Miss O was 18 months when I made them for her. They fit Short Round now at 6 months just as well as the did Miss O at 18 months!
I had the fabric for these pants for years. I originally bought the fabric for an apron, but that never happened. I later decided that it looked old lady ish, and it sat in my stash untouched. I am so happy I found it, because I love this pattern on my little shorty. Poppy calls these pants his hobo pants.
Now Short Round can lounge around the house in comfort and style!

Weekend Recap

I hope everyone had a wonderful Presidents Day weekend. We still had family in town, and we all decided to go on another adventure. Even though we had a little driving to do to get there, nothing really says Wild West like Tombstone. Lucky for us, they had all kinds of stuff going on there. It was the perfect day for it. There were gunfights taking place in the streets, dancing and skits everywhere. So much fun.
We did some shopping, had some lunch, and watched some of the festivities. Miss O really got into the spirit, and danced her little heart out. Let me tell you, it is hard not to want to join in when you see an adorable little toddler dancing in the streets. Little Short Round had a great time as well. That boy loves to ride in a stroller!
The rest of the weekend was pretty calm. DJ and I had our first date in over a year! It was so nice, and we did not have to rush to get back because Short Round is now eating baby food! We had another hair bow making party. I also did a little knitting, and  some research on how to work my new cricut machine. ( I think I might have it figured out...maybe) We also spent most of the weekend eating lots of yummy food with my family. Sadly they went home yesterday, and we are all so looking forward to their next visit.

Is Anyone Tired Of Frozen Yet?

Well, I thought the Frozen stage was over with, but we are now on round two. This second go around started around the new year. Miss O started taking our garland from the Christmas tree, and wrapping it around her neck, running around singing Let It Go. It was super cute, but I was ready to put my tree decorations up for the season. In this second phase it is not just the movie, but she sings the songs, quotes parts of the movie, and talks about the characters all the time.
Now here are my thoughts on Frozen, Miss O is a big fan of Elsa, which I just don't understand, because Anna is the cool one. Is it Elsa's blond hair, pretty dress, or is it her ability to shoot ice out of her hands.......wait that part is pretty awesome! Anyways, it bothers me a little bit, because Anna is the hero in the movie.
So, recently I gave in and made her an Elsa cape. We went to Joanns and picked up some sparkly sheer blue fabric. It only took me a couple of minuets to make, and she loves it, which makes it so worth it.
Yesterday, we spent the afternoon watching and rewatching the scene in Frozen where Elsa sings Let It Go. We moves the coffee table out of the way so we could learn some new dance moves. We had a great time! Of course Miss O had to wear her Elsa cape, and Short Round loved watching us!

Family Time At The Grand Canyon

My Aunt Rondia and my Grandparents are in town, and they had never been to the Grand Canyon!! We all jumped on the opportunity to have a weekend getaway to such a wonderful and beautiful place. It was a super spur of the moment trip, but it was fun!
There were 8 of us who went, so we rented a house in Flagstaff. I was nervous because DJ did not get to go, and I was going to have to get the kids to bed in a strange place all by myself. Oh yeah also because the kids and myself were sharing a room together. Lucky for me Short Round is a heavy sleeper, because Miss O is a talker! (so cute) However, I could not have asked for better kids, it was a smooth weekend.
One of my favorite parts of the trip was all the time I had to knit! We took two cars, and my Aunt Rondia drove my car because she know that I do not get the opportunity to do a lot of knitting these days. Thank you Aunt Rondia I love you!! I will post some updated pictures of my progress soon.
We are already planning and looking forward to our next trip. I feel so blessed to live so close to such a beautiful natural wonder.

Hair bow Making Party

Yesterday, a few of us mamas, my Nana, and my Aunt Rondia  got together and had a hair bow making party. Oh my gosh, we had so much fun!! My Aunt and I went to Hobby Lobby last week and bought a bunch of ribbon that was on sale for 50% off! Now, all of us Mamas have little girls we are wanting to accessorize, and Aunt Rondia is in my opinion a hair bow making expert. While all the kids were napping or playing, us ladies were getting educated. Aunt Rondia showed us how to make different bows and answered all of our question about techniques. We made elephant hair bows, butterflies, corkers, and bows!
The day was full of happy kiddos, pizza, hot glue, laughter, good company, and crafting. So much so, that we decided to have another hair bow making party next week! Look forward to seeing pictures of some finished projects soon!

Rainy Day Fun With Poppy

I just don't know if there is anyone Miss O loves more than her Poppy, and the photos above are a perfect example of why!
Winter storms here in the desert mean something very different than they do in many other parts of the country. Our winter storms usually involve rain and not snow. For those of us who have lived in the desert for years tend to love the rain and view it as a blessing. ( at least that is how I see it) We had a couple of rainy days last week, and Miss O was not as happy about the rain as I was. She has been spending most of her days playing outside lately, and she was getting bored. The next thing I know her Poppy constructed the fort pictured above, and crawled in with her.
I tried to get pictures of the inside of this awesome blanket fort, but Miss O kicked me out!! The two of them played in the fort all afternoon! Too cute!

On My Needles, A Knitting Update

I finally finished a project!! It feels like lately there are more half-completed projects around this house of ours than anything else! I want to start out by apologizing for the poor pictures. Our house does not have good natural lighting, and it was super early when I took the pictures, so the light outside was not any better.
Anyways, let me tell you about this completed project of mine. I have short curly hair, and it tends to be a little crazy, because of this I use lots of hair accessories to keep it looking cute and under control. Well, all of those hair accessories end up all over the my bedroom and bathroom. It was starting to drive me crazy, so I made a soft basket to contain some of them.

I got the pattern for this basket in More Last -Minute knitted Gifts, by Joelle Hoverson. I used a brand of yarn called I love this yarn, which is found at Hobby Lobby. It is a cotton yarn, which I do not really like working with, but I felt like it was the best material to use considering it is going to be spending time in my bathroom. (I made one of these baskets for Miss O two summers ago to serve the same purpose.)

Now on to one of my many unfinished projects. I started this sweater for Miss O back in September, but I had to put it aside for many different reasons. I had Halloween costumes to make, and Christmas gifts to make. Oh, and I can't forget the needle that broke in half, and the time it took me to buy a new one and have it shipped! This has been what I have been working on lately, and hopefully I can get it finished before it gets too warm or she out grows it.
