Thrift Store Finds

For those of you who know me well, you know all about my love for thrift stores. Before I make any purchase I always check out my local thrift stores first. This is due partly to me being cheap, but I also like the idea of reusing something that someone else no longer wants. This makes me feel better than going out and buying something new.

I used to go to my favorite thrift store once a week, but now that Miss O is bigger, she is a little harder to entertain while I shop. When at the store, I keep my eye out for certain things, such as fabric or something that I can cut up and use as fabric, any type of craft supplies, kid clothes, and books.

Here is a look at the treasures I got on my last thrifting adventure.

I was super excited about these two. The green shirt is for Miss O who has out grown all of her summer stuff. The sweater is for our new little guy on the way. I am going to brag and say I got it for $1.50
Don't worry I am going to take the green ruffle off the pillow sham before I put it to use. Now the two blue pillow cases are awesome. I am going to turn one of them into a dress for Miss O. They were only $.50 each
I thought the print on these sheets were so pretty. I can't wait to cut them up and turn them into something else. ( I will share photos when I do this)

I so happy with each individual find, but I will admit that seeing them altogether makes them look kinda silly and me a little crazy!! Oh well, they will all become beautiful things that will help to make my house a home.

This Week In My Garden

This is a picture of my garden from last week April 22.
(I know it is not a good picture. The garden is long, and is hard to get a good picture of the entire thing)

Here are picture from my garden this morning, April 29.

This end of the garden seems to really be growing nice!

Our first veggie! A Pea!

Check out this eggplant. That purple bloom is wonderful.

My favorite part....the green beans.

This week was a pretty low maintenance week in the garden, mostly just some light weeding and watering. We ground up leaves from the yard to use as mulch so little baby mimosas keep trying to sprout up. I have to keep an eye on that. Now this next week I do have some chores that will need to be done, and the sooner the better. This garden is turning out to be an amazing part of our day. We all love getting to see and discover new thing taking place within it. We are all spending more time outside because of it, and Miss O really likes to run up and down the rows which is just too cute. Tune in next week to see if I actually get around to those garden chores or not!

Three Generations in the Kitchen

Food is a big deal in my family. It is a way for us to spend time together, but it is also a way for us to communicate our feeling for each other as well. I mean what else says I love you more than homemade spaghetti and meatballs. We cook a lot between our house and my parents house, but it is not very often that I get to cook alone with my momma! Well Miss O joined us in the kitchen, but she did more observing than cooking.
Meatballs in the making.

Miss O getting into things as usual

Me and Mom

Mom made the meatballs and I made the sauce.

Almost done!

I am not a big fan of meatballs, but this was one good meal.

This was a meal that would have taken awhile to make with just one person cooking, but the two of us knocked it out pretty quick. Plus, there is plenty left over for dinner tonight!

Yard Sales and Sewing!

In preparation for our new kiddo on the way, we have been doing some rearranging in the house. Miss O is going to be moving into the full sized bed and her brother is going to be getting her furniture. We are just looking for a dresser to tie Miss O's room together.

So for the last month we have been hitting up yard sales and estate sales looking for just the right piece of furniture. I am sad to say that we have not found a dresser yet, but we have found all kinds of other cool and useful things that we did not know we needed. For example, this bag of cloths pins for only $1.50. I really did need these, ( I love to hang out my laundry) but this plastic bag they  came in just was not going to cut it, so I got to work and came up with something better!

Ahhhh, that's much better! I used some Anna Maria Horner laminated fabric for this bag. I wanted something that could stay outside and keep bugs out. (there are lots of spiders that like to hang out in the tree by the clothes line) So I added a zipper and the handle has a snap so the bag can be removed from the line at any time.

This week in my garden

I have dreamed about a garden for years, but the time and place has just never been right. Oh sure I would plant a few tomatoes and herbs, but never a full garden. This year with the help of my Mom and Dad I finally did it! This small space in my back yard was planted about 2 weeks ago.
This is a view of the entire length of the garden.

Corn sprouts, or baby corn as Miss O likes to call it.

What a pretty tomatillo plant!!

10 tomato plants

We are the most impressed with these! This is the green bean sprouts, and they are already getting so big!

These are just a few of the herbs I have planted around the yard!

We are bursting with excitement over the progress of this garden. I will be doing weekly updates so tune in.

Happy Easter!!

Easter was such a wonderful day around our house! Last year Miss O was too small to participate in any festivities, but this year she had a day full of candy, egg hunts, family and friends! Who could ask for more right?
The Easter Bunny left a basket for her at the front door!!
So many goodies!
Even though she does not get candy very often, she knew exactly what was in that shiny foil wrapper.
Of course there was an egg hunt!! We were all surprised at how fast she caught on!

Now I did learn a very important lesson this Easter.....Miss O does not handle a lot of sugar very well! I am going to hide the rest of the candy and hand it out chocolate egg by chocolate egg.

Waking up early has its advantages

This morning I woke up at three and could not go back to sleep. After trying for an hour, I decided to just go ahead and get up. Instead of dwelling on how tired I was going to be by the afternoon, I decided to use the time wisely and work on the baby sweater that I started weeks ago for our new addition that is on the way! It is finally starting to look like a sweater!
